What's Happening in the County:

  • County Holiday Office Closure – In observance of Independence Day, Sacramento County offices will be closed on Friday, July 3. As always, garbage service will continue as well as all emergency services, including stepped-up ranger patrols in our parks. All offices will return to their normal business hours on Monday, July 6.
  • Alcohol Ban and Life Jacket Requirements in Effect July 3 – July 5 – Keep in mind that the alcohol ban within the waterway and shore from Hazel to Watt Avenues on the American River will be in effect over the long weekend. Sacramento County’s life jacket requirement for kids under the age of 13 will also be enforced. Park Rangers will be on duty to make sure visitors stay safe while having fun. For more information, view the press release.
  • New Law Helps Consumers Make Healthier Food Choices – On Wednesday, July 1, California will be the first state to require chain restaurants with 20 or more statewide outlets to provide nutritional information for all standard menu items. The information may be in a brochure at the point-of-sale, where food is ordered or posted on menus. The new law will help consumers make more informed, healthier choices. For more information, view the Environmental Management website.
  • Wind-Surfing and Raft Rentals Help Beat the Heat in Local Parks and Rivers – Celebrate the 50th anniversary of our parks rafting down the American River, wind-surfing at Sherman Island or enjoying a BBQ at one of our parks. For more information, view the Events page.
  • Board Meetings Cancelled – The Board of Supervisors will be on summer recess June 21 – July 11. Regularly scheduled meetings during that time period have been cancelled and will resume on Tuesday, July 14. View the Board Meeting Information web page for scheduled days and time.
  • Board of Supervisors Adopts Budget – Sacramento County Supervisors have agreed on a proposed budget for the 2009-10 fiscal year that will authorize spending until the final budget is adopted in September. The $4.3 billion dollar spending plan is nearly 20% below the amount of last year’s budget. Program cuts, layoffs and service reductions were part of the package, and additional cuts may be required after the State’s budget is approved. Details of the budget proposal can be found on the Budget and Debt Management website.
